Bible Study: God’s Still Working on Me

In a world that expects instant perfection, it's easy to feel frustrated when we fall short, struggle with sin, or feel like we’re not growing fast enough. But the truth is: God is not finished with you yet. Sanctification—the process of becoming more like Jesus—is a journey, not a quick fix.

This study reminds us that spiritual growth takes time and that God’s grace meets us in the middle of the mess. So if you’re still learning, still growing, still healing—take heart. God’s still working on you.

I. God's Ongoing Work in You

When you feel like you’re behind or broken, remember: God’s timeline is different than ours. He’s not in a rush to make you perfect—He’s committed to walking with you, day by day, through every stage of your growth.

Why does patience matter in spiritual growth?

  • God shapes us over time, not overnight

  • Growth often comes through trials, not comfort

  • We are all in progress—nobody “arrives” this side of heaven

  • God is both gentle and persistent in His work in us

  • Patience reflects our trust in His process

II. Bible Verses About God’s Ongoing Work

Philippians 1:6 (NIV):

“Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
→ God finishes what He starts.

2 Corinthians 3:18 (NIV):

“And we all… are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord.”
→ Transformation is a process.

Romans 12:2 (NIV):

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…”
→ Renewal happens over time.

Isaiah 64:8 (NIV):

“We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.”
→ God is shaping us with care.

James 1:4 (NIV):

“Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
→ Don’t rush the process—growth requires perseverance.

III. Progress, Not Perfection

You don’t have to have it all together. You just have to keep showing up with a willing heart. God's grace is not just for the moment you got saved—it's for every moment you're being shaped, stretched, and sanctified.

Reflection Questions:

  • Where do you feel like you're not growing fast enough?

  • How can remembering God’s patience help you show grace to yourself?

  • What’s one area where you can see God’s growth in your life, even if it’s slow?

IV. Practical Application: Embracing the Process

Keep showing up:
Growth happens one small act of obedience at a time. Stay in the Word, keep praying, and keep trusting—even on hard days.

Celebrate small wins:
You don’t have to wait for a big breakthrough to praise God. Every step forward matters.

Let others see your journey:
Sharing your progress (not perfection) can encourage others who feel behind.

Be patient with others:
Extend the same grace to those around you. They’re under construction too.

Pray for perseverance:
Ask God to give you the strength to stay the course, even when it’s slow or uncomfortable.

Conclusion

You’re not finished, but you’re not failing either. God’s still working on you—and He doesn’t give up on what He loves. Be patient with yourself, lean into His grace, and trust that your story is still being written.

“We are all a work in progress, held in the hands of a perfect God.”
