Bible Study: I Am Who God Says I Am

In a world constantly telling us who we should be—through social media, culture, expectations, or past mistakes—it’s easy to lose sight of our true identity. But the most important voice in your life isn’t the world’s. It’s God’s. And He calls you chosen, loved, redeemed, and enough.

This study explores what it means to see yourself through God's eyes, not the world's labels, lies, or limitations.

I. Your Identity is Found in God

The truest thing about you isn’t what you've done, what others have said, or what you feel. The truest thing about you is what God says.

Why does your identity in God matter?

  • Because identity shapes your choices, relationships, and confidence

  • Because only God has the authority to define who you are

  • Because your worth isn’t something you earn—it’s something you already have in Christ

God doesn’t define you by your past—He defines you by His promises.

II. Bible Verses That Reveal Who You Are in Christ

Genesis 1:27 (NIV):

“So God created mankind in his own image… male and female he created them.”
→ I am created in His image.

Psalm 139:13-14 (NIV):

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb… I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”
→ I am wonderfully made.

John 1:12 (NIV):

“Yet to all who did receive him… he gave the right to become children of God.”
→ I am a child of God.

Ephesians 1:4 (NIV):

“For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight.”
→ I am chosen and made holy.

Romans 8:1 (NIV):

“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
→ I am forgiven and free.

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV):

“If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
→ I am a new creation.

III. Identity Lies vs. God’s Truth

So many of us carry around silent lies:

  • “I’m not enough.”

  • “I’ll never change.”

  • “I’m too broken.”

But God’s Word speaks a better truth:

  • “You are complete in Me.” (Colossians 2:10)

  • “I am doing a new thing in you.” (Isaiah 43:19)

  • “Nothing can separate you from My love.” (Romans 8:38–39)

Reflection Questions:

  • What labels or lies have you believed about yourself?

  • Which truth from Scripture speaks most to your heart today?

  • How would your life look different if you truly lived as who God says you are?

IV. Practical Application: Living from God’s Truth

Speak life over yourself:
Replace self-criticism with Scripture. Post reminders of God’s truth where you’ll see them daily.

Pray with confidence:
Approach God boldly, knowing He sees you as loved and chosen—not because of what you do, but because of who He is.

Stop comparing:
You’re not called to be someone else. You’re called to be faithful with who God created you to be.

Surround yourself with truth-tellers:
Be in community with people who will remind you of who you are when you forget.

Conclusion

You are not your mistakes. You are not your fears. You are not your labels.
You are who God says you are.

And He says:
💙 You are loved.
💙 You are chosen.
💙 You are seen.
💙 You are redeemed.
💙 You are enough—because He is enough.

“The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:24
